MISSISSIPPI BIG BEAT (HUN)
GÁL CSABA BOOGIE - vocal, guitars
OLÁH ANDOR - blues harp
Andor and Boogie played together first as members of the Hungarian premiere acoustic blues group, Dr Valter & The Lawbreakers in the early 1990s covering odd structured special blues pieces from the 1920s and '30s. Ten years of collaboration brought the then almost unknown folk blues to the light.
With the help of this musical lineup they bend all the past experience of southern style folk blues with fresh urban updated sound. Visual effects are also added to their shows. Moby, Little Axe and the production around the late R. L. Burnside paved the way for the musical efforts of Mississippi Big Beat.
The electronic musical background is based on the production of Tamás Jutasi. He had such achievement such as the 1995 Rave Olympia, the compilation series called Sunset Cafe, the live act called Secta Sound System, the band under the name of Goulash Exotica but he, too, played on György Ferenczi's album based on the poems of the Hungarian poet, Sándor Petőfi. He played an important role in creating the first CD of the musical project called Budapest Bar.
This year is the 100th anniversary of blues legend Robert Johnson's birth who is one of the most important modernizers in blues history. Mississippi Big Beat keeps updating the tradition. The old-fashioned blues get an electronic twist with the most up-to-date sounds and effects. That's how the rural blues styles of the pre-war era meet the post-modern urban soundscapes.
In the meantime Andor and Boogie play their’s own original, authentic Delta Blues program too.
